(notes since august: batik, core braid, mini quilt, and bolster pillows all on standby indefinitely while i focus on weaving (temporary loom access!) and spinning. but: batik dyed and just needs to be ironed and core braid nearly done!)

stayed late at work to work on my batik piece - hard but i think it looks good! also was super confused about how to continue my core braid and i kind of vibed it out and got it totally right. and sewed like one couch tie.

yesterday before work my boss mentioned that they overheard me talking about natural dye printing w my teacher and said that they had actually made stuff to print with for the kids and that i could use the extra if i wanted. realizing now (on train to work) that i totally forgot to bring my dyed fabric with me so i guess i can’t make progress on those pillows today. but i need to figure out what print i even want to make so that’s ok, maybe i’ll research after work.

yesterday sewed like 5 more ties for my couch quilt so i’m over half way thru the ties for the front of the quilt. aka a quarter of the way through them in general. did no other crafting over the weekend but did make a grid for a batik piece today after work because the kids were doing it earlier and i got inspired by one of the books we showed them. also got advice from my dyeing teacher about screen printing with natural dyes! so bolster pillows may be printed after all.

Dyed two random skeins I spun, one with madder (good deep red) the other with pomegranate (hay color), just to do something with them; might overdye the latter with indigo to try for green but reviving the indigo vat intimidates me. Finished both the grey and black wools for the core braids but decided I need to make some samples before diving into the full thing. So made a couple of demos, one of which I had to restart.

No knitting, no progress on the mini quilt. But did get halfway through patching a tee I like but never wear because of one weird slit cut into it by its previous owner.

Current Projects (8.05)

Mini couch quilt: bottom cut, 23 rectangles for ties cut, 6 of them sewn; immediate need is to sew the rest of them.

Bolster pillows: fabric dyed. sew together pieces and decide if printing needed + if so how.

Iron mordant printing: totally not started except in my head. need to find, scour, + mordant fabric (just use scraps from work; or use already mordanted ones if i can find). decide on print and make it maybe tomorrow pm?

Andean sling braid: light grey spun, black single spun and needs to be plied, which i'll do today. Need to decide on pattern and spin third color if desired, also dye it if desired. Also need to spin white locks for the sling part but that's a later problem.

2x2 woollen spun hat: yarn spun, need to sample to decide on needle size.

cheviot shaker museum hat: yarn spun, need to sample to decide on needle size, then plan pattern based on image.

3x1 rib sock: finish second sock :/
